Leadership Lessons from the Pandemic

Emily O’Reilly, European Ombudsman

28th July 2021

Emily O’Reilly addressed ACESA members and highlighted the key challenges posed by the pandemic. She spoke of her own work as European Ombudsman and how she has had to dig in to show leadership in changing times. Emily underscored the importance of culture in organisations and the definition of good leadership – compassion, empathy, transparency, and hope. She also emphasized state agencies’ role in leading social, cultural, and economic recovery from the pandemic. Members were keen to learn from Emily’s experience and work in championing those who are often left behind in society – the elderly, people living with disabilities and students in disadvantaged areas.
